Originally Christian Carlson hired me to create a fountain that would be at the entranceway of his new store. As the renovation of his space continued he realized that he was in need of some sort of railing in one section of the store. I went down to Ne w York City, met with Christian and created some drawings for him. I was nervous, because at the same time Christian had another contractor coming in to bid on the same job. I had never made a railing before in my life, these other guys, I think that’s all they did.

Well anyway Christian decided that since he was so happy with the fountain that he would go with my proposal and he gave me the job! It was an incredible challenge, and opportunity. I created the 40’ of railing in three sections, brought it to New York and then did the final welding on site to join the pieces together. It was ultimately finished with a fine piece of woodwork on top as a handrail. In the end everyone was delighted, it came out much better and stronger than I had imagined.
